Royals defeat Wolves in four sets

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team hosted the Wolves of Newberry College today in a South Atlantic Conference showdown. The Royals showed their potent offense and picked up a win to take their record to 5-8 on the year.
 
In set one the Royals started out on fire in front of their home crowd and forced an early timeout from the Wolves. But the intended speed bump did not work, and the Royals continued to pile on and took the set by the score 25-11 behind a .406 hitting percentage.
 
In the second both teams exchanged points early with Newberry taking a lead at 15-9 and forcing head coach Lettie Wilkes to take a timeout. The Royals rallied quickly out of the timeout to tie the score at 17-17, and from there continue to pile on to win the frame by the score of 25-22.
 
Following the break the Wolves were able to claw their way back in the match and took advantage of a Royals offense that was not clicking. The Royals did manage to keep the game tight, but eventually dropped the third 20-25.
 
Using the dropped set as motivation the Royals came into the fourth set with guns blazing. Picking up fourteen kills in the set, the Royals cruised to a relatively easy 25-18 victory to take the match.
 
Anna Gibbs, Elizabeth Bialkowski, and Keri Kemp all turned in double digits in kills with Taylor Riley adding 49 assists. Defensive the Royals has 12 total blocks and Jocelyn Kellinger, Erin Mooney, and Kemp turned in double digit digs.
 
The Royals host Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday night.
