Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team was outscored 4-2 in today's game with Wingate University. The Royals fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss, while the Bulldogs improve to 2-0.
Both teams opened the game aggressively on the offensive end without a goal coming until the 31
st minute when Shelby Forza of Wingate put the visitors up 1-0. Queens would soon answer with a goal one timed into the back of the net by
Megan Sload (Conestoga, Pa., Penn Manor). Macie McGuffin (Dallas, Texas, Birdville) was awarded the assist after serving the ball into play on a free kick. The 1-1 score would hold until the half.
The Bulldogs got on the board early in the second when Jade Montgomery scored the ball from a congested box 1:10 into play. She would net a second goal in the 64
th minute to give Wingate a 3-1 lead. The Royals were able to respond eight minutes later to close the Bulldogs' lead to one point when McGuffin rebounded a ball cleared by Wingate's keeper, and booted it into the back of the net.
Queens fought to tie the game back up, but fell short as Wingate's Taryn Grivois placed another ball in the net in the 80
th minute.
The Royals took six shots to Wingate's 16 this afternoon with no player taking more than one shot.
Kelsey Seretis collected seven saves in the net.
Wingate's Montgomery led all on the field with nine shots, while Miriam Boucher earned the win in goal with one save.
Queens will return to the Queens Sports Complex for their conference opener on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Pfeiffer University.
