Late Bulldogs goal gives Royals a home loss

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A goal scored by the Bulldogs of Barton College with three seconds left on the clock gave the Royals a devastating 1-0 home loss this evening at the Queens Sports Complex. Queens University of Charlotte is now 3-2 in the league and 5-6 on the season after dropping their third game in a row. Barton improves to 4-6-1 on the year and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas.

The Royals dominated play on the offensive end of the field firing off 19 shots to Barton's three. Half of Queens' shots were on goal, but the Royals were unable to find the back of the net as eight shots were turned away by Barton's keeper, Vasily Yakimkin, and one hit the crossbar.

With it seeming as if the game was heading into extra minutes as time ticked off the clock in the final minute and the score sat knotted at zero, Barton made a final push to their offensive end of the field with the ball at Dante De Luca's feet. The Queens defense made an attempt to dispossess De Luca, but came up unlucky as he got past the Royals and shot the ball into the back left corner of the net for the win.

Felipe Netto (Salvador, Brazil, Colegio Modulo) led the Royals with four shots on goal this evening.

Queens will host King College in their next game on October 10 at 5 p.m.
