Queens overpowers Trojans in conference match

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Volleyball team took on Mount Olive in an important Conference Carolinas matchup today. From the beginning of the match the Royals jumped on the Trojans and never looked back winning the match 3-0.
 
In their second home match of the season the Royals showed their offensive power in the opening serve. From the first point the Royals were fired up, and never stopped attacking their opponents. The Royals took the set by the score of 25-15, and showed why they are currently battling for the top spot in the East Division of Conference Carolinas.
 
In the second game Queens' Brittney Barren (Ham Lake, Minn., Blaine) demonstrated her serving skills throughout the game, and kept the Trojans on their toes whenever she was behind the line. During this back-and-forth game the Royals showed their ability to fight back against pressure, and were able to take the game 25-22.
 
Following the intermission between the second and third sets and sitting on a 2-0 lead the Royals took their intensity to the next level. Queens constantly applied pressure above the net, and setter McKenzie Martin (Houston, Texas, Stratford)) displayed her defensive abilities as she made two sensational defensive plays in just one point to keep the ball alive. The Royals proved to be relentless, and were able to take the match with a 25-18 win in the third set.
 
Offensively Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) led the way with 14 kills, and joined Elizabeth Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C., Millbrook) in hitting over .400. Dictating the offense from her setter position, Martin added 31 assists to the stat book. Defensively Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring) nd Barren paced the Royals with 16 digs, and Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) chipped in with 14.
 
The Royals currently stand at 11-8, and 5-1 in conference. Queens plays next when they host Barton College at 2 p.m.
