FLORENCE Ala. – With two losses today, the Royals will return home with a 4-3 record after dropping three games in the North Alabama Classic. Queens University of Charlotte played two games today losing 3-1(25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 20-25) to Nova Southeastern University and 3-1(10-25, 25-20, 20-25, 17-25) to Saint Leo University.
Match 1
In match one of the day, the Royals faced the Sharks taking the first set after capturing six straight points, ignited by service aces from
Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring).
After Nova Southeastern jumped out to an early lead in the second, Queens battled back knotting the set at 14 before the Sharks took over for the 25-23 win.
The Sharks would take the third set after putting down 14 kills. After Nova Southeastern jumped out to an early lead, the Royals found themselves playing catch up.
In the final set of the match, the Royals made one final push to force the match into a fifth set. With the score sitting at 21-16,
Avery Moore took control of the serve as Queens picked up three straight points bringing them to within two of the Sharks. However, the Royals would end the game on three attack errors handing the win to Nova Southeastern.
Lindsey Everhart (Cincinnati, Ohio, McNicholls) led the Royals in game one with 15 kills.
Avery Moore (Arlington, Texas, Lamar) tallied 18 assists. Kellinger collected 17 digs on the day on defense.
Match 2
In match two, Queens met up with the Lions of Saint Leo University. The Royals were shocked by the Lions in the first set losing 25-10.
Queens regained its composure for game two building a small lead early in the set. Three attack errors in a row by the Lions helped the Royals to a 20-12 lead in route to taking the set.
The Royals battled in the final two sets of play, but came up short in both as Saint Leo took the match.
Everhart continued to lead the Royals in game two collecting eight kills. Moore added 15 more assists to her tournament performance as
Brittney Barren (Ham Lake, Minn., Blaine) led on the defensive end against the Lions notching 12 digs.
Queens returns home to face Armstrong Atlantic University on Tuesday night at 6:30 pm.
