CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Both tennis squads traveled across town this afternoon each picking up 9-0 wins over Johnson C. Smith. With the sweeps, Queens University of Charlotte begins the year at 1-0 on the men's and women's side.
The women jumped out to a 3-0 lead after dropping only seven games in doubles action.
In singles action, Queens collected six bagels led by
Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) who didn't drop a single game at the fifth. The Royals only lost six games combined.
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) and
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) played the one and two each winning 6-0, 6-1.
The men dominated in doubles dropping just one game to the Golden Bulls.
Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada, L'Essor Secondary School) defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-3 in the number one spot, while
Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) canceled his competition out with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Ignacio Casali (Farmingdale, N.Y., Farmingdale),
Christopher Kennedy (Colorado Springs, Colo., TCA), and
Bryce Boothby (Sudbury, Mass., Pendleton) each picked up double bagels to close the match.
Queens returns to the court on Sunday as they host USC-Lancaster in an exhibition match at noon.
