CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens Volleyball continued its hot start Saturday morning, defeating Virginia Union 3-0 and Columbia 3-1 on the final day of the Double B Graphix Invite to improve to 4-0.
After an early route of Virginia Union, the Royals were tested by an energetic Columbia team. After dropping the first set 17-25, the Royals rebounded to win the next two by the scores of 25-16 and 25-19. Trailing throughout the fourth set, the Royals rallied from an eight-point deficit to win 25-23 and take the match.
Ashley Winters (Fredericktown, Ohio, Highland) gave the Royals a big day on the attack – tallying 23 kills while adding five blocks defensively. Queens also received a well-rounded effort from
Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory), who accumulated 11 kills, three assists, three digs, and four blocks en route to being named to the All-Tournament team.
Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) had another successful afternoon directing traffic for the Royals, as she added 43 assists and five aces to her season totals.
The Royals are back in action Tuesday evening when they welcome conference-rival Mount Olive College to the Oven for a 6:30 match.
