CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Keri Kemp's (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) match-high 11 kills led Queens volleyball to a 3-0 sweep (25-22; 25-18; 25-13) at Coker College Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Royals a 13-6 (6-4 CC) overall record and their most wins in over 10 years.
Kemp's 11 kills came on 21 attempts to hit an impressive .524 to go along with her two aces and seven digs. Also working on the offensive end were
Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory), eight kills, and
Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass), who handed out 29 assists with seven digs on the afternoon.
The Royals, ranked 34th in aces per set in DII (2.07), recorded 10 aces on the day, opposed to Coker's five for a 2-1 advantage.
Contributing two-plus aces apiece on the day for the Royals were Kemp,
Alexa Sparrell (Winter Park, Fla., Winter Park),
Erica Mazur (Waxhaw, N.C., Weddington), and
Brittney Barren (Ham Lake, Minn., Blaine) – who is currently ranked 47th in individual aces per set (0.55).
The Cobras' Katie McElveen recorded a team high 10 kills with eight digs while Mindy Morris and April Griggs had five kills each, with Morris adding 11 digs.
The Royals begin a crucial set of Conference Carolinas road games this week, traveling to Limestone on Tuesday before back-to-back matches with Barton and Mount Olive on Thursday and Friday.
