BANNER ELK, N.C.- Freshman Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) earned his fifth career double-double tonight as he rallied the Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team to a Conference Carolinas victory over Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Royals (4-13 overall/3-7 CC) only trailed once in the game, 5-3, and only allowed the Bobcats (1-20 overall/1-10 CC) to come within three just two times during the game.
During the first stanza Queens led by as many as 14, but held a five point advantage, 37-32, at the end of the half.
Kyle Boardman brought the Bobcats within three with two free throws in the 19th minute, but they weren't able to tame the Royals.
Queens pulled away, slowly, until a series of three-pointers by Bailey, Devon Seaford (Charlotte, N.C., Hope Christian Academy), Sean Eads (Greenville, S.C., Eastside) and Charles Burgess (Spartanburg, S.C., Boiling Springs) put the Royals out by 17 with 9:05 to play.
The Royals extended the lead out to as many as 21 before finishing the game 81-63.
For the seven games Bailey has been the Royals top rebounder and top scorer in three of the seven. Queens out-rebounded the hosts 2-1 on the defensive side and pulled down one more offensively.
Boardman had 19 for the Bobcats while Jesse Hoots scored eight points and had the team-high seven rebounds.
Coker hosts the Royals on Thursday at 7:30pm.
