Gavin Rains of the Queens men's basketball team has been named December Male InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month. 

In three games in the month of December, Rains averaged nine rebounds per game, which included a 13-rebound effort at Lincoln Memorial on Dec. 7 and a 10-rebound performance at Coker on Dec. 18, continuing a stretch of four consecutive games with at least 10 rebounds that began in the final week of November. At Coker, Rains' game-winning tip-in at the final buzzer was the difference, lifting the Royals to a 70-68 victory. For the month, Rains averaged 5.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 42.1 percent from the field.
