Brandon Johnson was promoted to senior associate athletic director of business development in January of 2025. Johnson has been with the department since the fall of 2015 when he was hired to lead the sports medicine department. In 2021, he was promoted to associate athletic director of sports medicine and wellness performance. He was the 2016 recipient of the Staff Appreciation and Recognition Award, for his remarkable focus on students, integrity, respect, stewardship, creativity and innovation and service as the director of sports medicine.

Johnson plays an integral role in strategic planning and operations for the Department of Athletics. A top priority of his involves spearheading the development of corporate sponsorships and revenue-generating initiatives to support goals set forth. He also leads the development and oversight of the financial strategy, budgeting, and long-term fiscal planning for the Royals Department of Athletics. Johnson will also continue to serve as the sports administrator for baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's cross country and track and field.

The Royals are in year three of the reclassification process to Division I after joining the ASUN Conference in 2022. Six postseason appearances highlighted the 2024 fall season as men's soccer advanced to their second consecutive ASUN Championship Tournament and women's volleyball made their first appearance. Additionally, the triathlon team finished third at the national championships while men's rugby fell short of their second national title.

Before changing roles in the department, Johnson administered all areas of athletic training services and supervised the sports performance department, expanding and exploring partnerships to enhance the Royals' access to outstanding medical services. He was also pivotal in Queens' efforts to get students safely back on campus amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Serving as a member of the University's COVID-19 Response Team, his expertise was leveraged to help spearhead Queens Athletics' COVID-19 testing protocols.

Johnson holds a bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University in athletic training and a master's degree from Pfeiffer University in health administration.

Johnson and his wife Tiffany reside in Gastonia with their three children, Gavin, Addison, and Lillian.
