Tammi Fries (pronounced freeze) enters her third season with the Royals volleyball program. Tammi serves as the Associate Head Coach with Royals Volleyball and is beginning her ninth season as a collegiate coach. In her second season at Queens, Fries helped lead the team to a 17-11 record their first season in the South Atlantic Conference and marked a first in program history as the Royals made the NCAA tournament. In her first season with the program, Fries helped lead the Royals volleyball team to a 22-12 overall record and a 2012 Conference Carolinas regular season championship; another first in school history. Fries’ primary responsibilities include training all hitters, coordinating team defense, scouting and recruiting. During the spring of 2013, Fries received national recognition when she was named to the AVCA’s “Thirty Under 30” award which recognizes up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport.
Fries came to Queens from Southern Illinois University after serving the 2011 season as an assistant coach for the Salukis. Prior to SIU, Fries spent five years at East Tennessee State University where she served as recruiting coordinator and an assistant coach, working mainly with the middles and right side hitters. In 2006, Fries helped the Buccaneers to an Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship. In 2010, her final season at ETSU, Fries was a part of the team’s 26-9 season, the most wins in the modern era at the time, and their first trip to an A-Sun Conference Tournament Championship match.
In 2006, Fries completed her master's degree in sport management at the University of Florida. While in Gainesville, she was involved in coaching at the club and high school level for two years, including stints with the Gainesville Juniors Volleyball Club and Buchholz High School. Fries taught volleyball physical education classes to undergraduates for her assistantship at UF and she also served as an operations intern for the Florida Gators volleyball program during spring of 2006.
A native of Winnabow, N.C., Fries graduated Magna Cum Laude from Campbell University in 2004 with her bachelor's degree in athletic training, where she was a four-year letter winner for the Fighting Camels volleyball team. She was voted Campbell's Most Valuable player in 2002 and served as a team captain in 2003. Fries earned academic all-conference honors all four years.
Tammi and her husband, Jared, reside in the Charlotte area with their four-year-old daughter, Layla.
