Rios began his coaching career at Adams State University, his alma mater, where he served as an assistant coach for two seasons after completing his playing career. As a player, he captained the 2019 team and was a key member of the 2017 squad that achieved the best record in program history. He transferred to Adams State from Mesa Community College in Arizona, where he earned ACCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in the 2016-17 season. Following his collegiate career, Rios played semi-professionally with the Vancouver Victory (EPLWA) and Sporting AZ FC (UPSL).
