Chris Powell joins the Royals after most recently finishing a graduate assistant position at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. While at SIUE Powell was a strength and conditioning coach for all of the NCAA Division I athletic teams, primarily working with the track and field team. Powell graduated from the SIUE graduate program in the Spring of 2016 with a Master’s of Science in Kinesiology.

Prior to SIUE, Powell was member of Ashland University’s track and field team in Ashland, Ohio. During his time he worked very closely with his mentor and head coach, Jud Logan, who was a four-time USA Olympian. Powell worked as an intern for Logan assisting in coaching redshirt athletes and coaching groups of high school athletes at multiple throws camps.

As an athlete, Powell was team captain, a four-time GLIAC All-Conference team member, and a four-time Division II national qualifier. He was also a 2014 GLIAC Conference Champion and all-American in the discus throw. Powell graduated from Ashland University in the Spring of 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science in exercise science.

Powell is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the NSCA and a certified sport performance coach with U.S.A. weightlifting.
