Peter Verhoef

Verhoef brings a wealth of knowledge to the pool deck at Queens; most notably with his experience at the London Olympic Games. He assisted in the coaching of six Olympians, who amassed three gold medals and three silver at the games. Since 2010 he has been an assistant coach with SwimMAC's Team Elite in Charlotte, who produced the largest group of 18 and under athletes that participated in the 2012 Olympic Trials.

Verhoef is no stranger to elite swimming, both as a coach and as an athlete. As a standout student-athlete at the University of Georgia, he was a finalist at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics Trials, as well as representing the United States at the World Championships in 2007 and World University Games in 2005.

In his first year at Queens he oversaw the previously 9th and 10th place women's and men's teams place 3rd and 4th respectively.  Verhoef assisted in coaching nine national champions in his first season, setting seven new NCAA records for Division II, and turned in 21 new school records.  Along with the current success of the team, the Royals look to bring a great recruiting class to date after Verhoef served as the team's recruiting coordinator for the season. Verhoef helped led both the men's and women's programs to not only their first conference win claiming the Bluegrass Mountain Conference in 2015, but the team topped the nation as they swept the 2015 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships. The dual national titles would be the first team NCAA national championships for the school.

Verhoef graduated Cum Laude with degrees in Management and Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia, as well as a certificate from the Institute for Leadership Advancement.  Verhoef spent two years as an IT consultant and developer with PowerPlan Inc prior to becoming a professional coach.  He lives in Charlotte with his wife Kristin.
