THE SHORT STORY
The Queens University of Charlotte softball team erased an early five-run deficit to defeat Winthrop, 8-5, on Tuesday evening, using timely hitting and dominant relief pitching to complete the comeback at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop took control early, scoring once in the first before capitalizing on a Queens error in the second inning to plate four unearned runs and build a 5-0 advantage.

Queens began its comeback in the third inning as Sage Farmer delivered an RBI single and Olivia Thornton followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Royals continued to close the gap in the fourth, scoring two unearned runs on a Winthrop error to make it a 5-4 game.

After a quiet fifth inning, Queens broke through in the sixth. The Royals tied the game at 5-5 on a wild pitch before Dani Stewart gave Queens its first lead with an RBI single. Farmer added a sacrifice fly, and Lindsay Henson capped the four-run inning with an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-5.

IN THE CIRCLE
Lindsay Henson started in the circle, allowing five runs (just one earned) over two innings. Addison Kluck was outstanding in relief, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five to earn the win.

AT THE PLATE
Queens finished with nine hits, led by multi-hit performances from Olivia Thornton and Lindsay Henson. Farmer drove in two runs, while Stewart and Henson each delivered key RBIs during the decisive sixth inning.

UP NEXT
Queens will look to carry the momentum into its next ASUN series against Stetson as conference play continues this weekend.
