Hicks Records First Double Double as Royals Fall at UNCW

THE SHORT STORY
Queens put together a strong first half and held an early rebounding advantage, but a difficult third quarter shifted control toward UNCW as the Royals fell 69–59 on Saturday. Queens stayed within single digits late but was unable to close the gap in the final minutes.

  • Hannah Hicks tied her career high with 13 points and recorded the first double-double of her Queens career with 11 rebounds, adding a career best five blocks.
  • Brenae Jones-Grant matched Hicks with 13 points and added nine rebounds, her third game with nine or more boards this season.
  • Jermany Mapp finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and two threes, her third double-figure scoring outing of the season.
  • Ana Barreto totaled 11 points, eight rebounds, and a team-high five assists, her second-highest assist output of the year.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
  • Queens opened with strong defensive pressure, holding UNCW to nine first-quarter points while controlling the boards in the first half.
  • The Royals built a ten-point lead midway through the second quarter behind a 6-0 burst from Jones-Grant and Hicks.
  • UNCW shifted momentum between the late second and early third quarters with a sustained run that erased the Queens lead.
  • Queens answered with threes from Mapp and Barreto to halt the surge, but UNCW created separation again with a late third-quarter push.
