Royals Score Late to Earn a Draw Against North Florida

CHARLOTTE. N.C. – The University of North Florida Ospreys scored late in the first-half Sunday afternoon to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, but an 81st minute goal from Sophia Muetterties earned Queens University a 1-1 draw in Atlantic Sun women's soccer action at Dickson Field. The Royals move to 5-5-2 (1-2-2 ASUN) on the year, while the Ospreys go to 5-3-4 (2-1-1 ASUN).

TURNING POINT 
It took every second in the first-half to break a defensive battle between the Royals and Ospreys. North Florida used a late possession in the first-half to take the lead at the break with two seconds left on the clock. Queens became the aggressor and increased the pressure coming out of the break. A scramble in the box led to Maddy Leone finding the boot of Sophia Muetterties who put the ball in the left corner of the goal to even the score with nine minutes remaining. 
 
KEY STATS & NOTES 

  • Making her 12th start in goal this season, junior Kelsey Jargstorf recorded five saves on six shots on goal.  

  • Graduate midfielder Sophia Muetterties tallied her third goal in five matches and her fourth goal of the year.  

  • Senior Maddy Leone posted her 3rd assist of the season, tying teammate Girah Durant for the conference lead. Leone played a valuable 63 minutes in her 11th start of the season. 

  • Sejla Podzic and Savannah Stuart each finished with 90 minutes of play, leading the Queens backline that only allowed six shots on frame.  
     

UP NEXT 
Queens will begin a four-game road trip with matches in the Sunshine and Bluegrass States. First up the Royals will face off with Florida Gulf Coast on October 3rd before heading to Stetson on October 6th. Bellarmine (Oct. 10) and Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 13) are both slated before the Royals return to Dickson Field on October 17 to host Austin Peay at 7:00 PM.
