Blake Childers is thrilled to welcome four new athletes to the roster for the upcoming season. The 2024-25 signing class is comprised of Ryan Lue, Tanner Lorms, Rhys McIlroy, Jantai Malateav, and Peyton Savageau.
Ryan Lue is an incoming freshman from Kingston, Jamaica. He has represented his country as a junior team player since 2020 and a senior team player since 2022. He has notched low 54-, 36-, 18-, and 9-hole tournament scores of 210 (-6), 134 (-8), 66 (-6), and 29 (-7), respectively. Off the golf course, Lue has also received two FIA Awards for go-karting.
Tanner Lorms is another incoming freshman from Union, Kentucky. At Ryle High School, he was a four-time state qualifier and all-region honoree. He was also nominated for the all-region academic team four times and has received the Presidential Service Award.
Rhys McIlroy is an incoming junior from Paisley, Scotland. He is transferring from Lincoln Memorial University, the No. 2 ranked Division II golf program in the country. He is a two-time Turnberry Club Champion and the most recent Renfrewshire County Stroke Play Champion.
Jantai Malateav is an incoming graduate student from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He will be joining his teammate from Lincoln Memorial University on the roster. Malateav is the top-ranked golfer from Kyrgyzstan, was named the Master of Sports in Golf in Kyrgyzstan, and has participated in two Pacific Amateur Championships representing his country. He played on the International Junior Golf Tour winning the 2020 Lake Harris Open, the Faldo Series Georgia Championship, the 2020 HJGTElite Series at Palmetto Hall, and the 2022 State Farm Open at Woodlake Country Club before his time at LMU. At LMU, he was a regular in the Railsplitters' rotation that ranked among the top DII programs in the nation, won the South Atlantic Conference Championship, and made an appearance at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional in the 2020-2021 season.
Peyton Savageau is an incoming freshman from Minnesota. He attended Totino-Grace High School and is ranked 10th in Minnesota by the Minnesota State Golf Association. He won the 2023 Minnesota PGA Match Play Championship, the 2023 Twin Cities Junior Championship, the 2024 Spring Lake Park Invitational at TPC Twin Cities, and his first AJGA start in 2021.
"We really have some great young men coming in that are very driven to make an immediate impact," said Childers. "They all have fantastic games and have expressed to me how excited they are to get here in August and get after it. They will be coming into a program that's already full of talent, so everyone will be pushing everyone to get better and it will hopefully force everyone to take their games to a new level. I'm really looking forward to what this upcoming season has in store for our guys and this program."
The Royals are scheduled to begin their season in September at the Bryan Park Intercollegiate hosted by UNCG. The full 2024-25 season schedule will be released in the coming days.
