Queens Men's Basketball Set to Tip Off 2024-2025 Season Against Lynchburg on Monday Night in the Queen City

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team is set to kick off their 2024 campaign on Monday night as the Royals host Lynchburg University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus. Queens is coming off their second straight trip to the Atlantic Sun Tournament and will look to carry the momentum in year three of the transition to Division 1.

THE MATCHUP
Monday night marks the third all-time meeting between Queens and Lynchburg. The Royals hold a 2-0 advantage over the Hornets with their most recent 107-72 victory coming last season. Senior Chris Ashby turned in a game-high 22 points behind seven three pointers which tied for the second most in a single-game in program history. In the win, Queens saw seven Royals reach double figures. The two squads met for the first time on December 19, 1998 and the Royals emerged victorious 67-52.
 
SCOUTING THE ROYALS (0-0 overall, 0-0 ASUN)
  • Queens is coming off a 14-19 overall record last season, including a 7-9 mark in Atlantic Sun action. The Royals made their second straight trip to the ASUN Tournament which featured a first-round victory over FGCU.
  • The Royals will kick off the 2024 campaign inside Curry Arena, a venue that the Royals have protected holding a 247-81 mark. Since joining Division 1, the Royals are 9-1 in non-conference games at home.
  • Charlotte native Bryce Cash returns after being one of two freshman in the ASUN to earn unanimous All-Freshman team nods. Cash will look to lead the offense at the point after averaging 7.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
  • Sharpshooter Chris Ashby returns to the lineup as he looks to crack 100+ three-pointers in a single season. Ashby has buried a three in 56-of-66 appearances and sits eighth all-time in program history for three-pointers made.
  • Center Malcolm Wilson will look to protect the rim against after blocking the fourth most shots in the ASUN last season. Last season, Wilson opened the year with a block in 10-of-11 games.
  • Queens has high expectations for a pair of Division 1 transfers in Leo Colimerio (Fresno State) and Nasir Mann (McNeese State). The duo are expected to make an immediate impact on both ends of the ball while bringing a veteran leadership.
  • The Royals will look to push the pace again after sitting top 10 in the country last season in pace of play, according to KenPom. Queens averaged 72.8 possessions per 40 minutes.
  • Queens will look to replace elite scoring talent after losing 59-percent of their production with the departures of AJ McKee (18.8 PPG), Deyton Albury (17.0 PPG), and BJ McLaurin (11.5 PPG). The Royals return 31-percent of their scoring from a season ago with Chris Ashby leading the way at 9.7 points per game.
  • The Royals have cashed in from the perimeter at a high clip making a three pointer in 343 straight games.
  • Queens was picked to finish ninth in the ASUN Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll. Since joining the league, Queens has managed to finish higher than their projected finish. In 2022, the Royals were picked to finish 13th and turned in a ninth place finish. Last season, Queens was projected to finish 10th and turned in an eighth place finish.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS (0-0 overall, 0-0 ODAC)
  • Lynchburg is coming off an 11-15 season, including a 6-10 record in ODAC action. The Hornets finished ninth in the ODAC last season.
  • The Hornets are a Division 3 program representing the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
  • Lynchburg was bounded in the first round of the ODAC Tournament last season falling to Shenandoah 71-65.
  • Hilliary Scott enters his 16th season at the helm of the Hornets program. Under his direction, Lynchburg is 221-187.
  • The Hornets are looking to reach the 15 win milestone for the first time since 2019-20.
  • Jonathan Faust returns to the lineup after finishing second on the team in scoring a season ago. The senior started 23-of-26 appearances and averaged 8.7 points on an efficient 52-percent mark from the field.
  • Lynchburg will look to replace their leading scorer from last season in Myles Taylor. The 6-5 forward made 26 appearances, including eight starts and averaged 9.2 points per game on a 44-percent shooting clip.
  • Last season, Lynchburg averaged 72.4 points per game behind a 43-percent shooting clip and 33-percent mark from downtown.
