Royals Battle to a 1-1 Draw with Austin Peay

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University Royals scored in the 35th minute of action on Thursday night but settled for a 1-1 draw with Austin Peay in an ASUN women's soccer contest. The Royals picked up a needed point as they look to secure the final spot in the conference tournament. With the result Queens moves to 5-9-3 on the year and 1-5-3 in the ASUN, while the Governors move to 6-5-5- overall and 4-2-3 in league play.

TURNING POINT 
In a back-and-forth contest. It was the Royals who struck first on a goal from freshman Juliana Hunter. A crossed ball sent into the middle of the box from Chelsea DeVettori found Hunter who sent in her first career goal. The Queens defensive midfield and back line withstood multiple Austin Peay chances before allowing the equalizing goal in the 77th minute.  

KEY STATS & NOTES 

  • After making 17 starts this season, Juliana Hunter was rewarded with her first career goal.  

  • Chelsea DeVettori tallied her first assist of the season and her second as a Royal. The senior midfielder made her 12th appearance this year and contributed 63 minutes of action. 

  • Kelsey Jargstorf once again had a brilliant night in goal for the Royals. Jargstorf finished with seven saves for the fourth time this year. 

  • The Royals took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break despite giving up 11 shots in the first half. Austin Peay finished the match outshooting Queens 15-4. 

  • The Governors won the corner kick battle against the Royals 8-2. Austin Peay attempted five corner kicks in the second half. 

UP NEXT 
The Royals will close out play their final home game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 20 against Lipscomb at 1 PM. Queens and Lipscomb will meet for the second time in their series history.
