The Short Story:Â The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped game two of the weekend series at Jacksonville State by a final score of 6-2 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Jacksonville State would crack the scoring column first with a run on three hits. Mason Maners and T.J. Reeves worked back-to-back singles and put runners on the corner before Maners plated the first run on a wild pitch.
-The Gamecocks would extend their lead to 6-0 in the fourth inning with a five-run inning. JSU capitalized on a pair of doubles and four singles in the inning.
-Queens would plate their first run in the top of the sixth inning as Andrew McDermott opened the inning with a single to left field. After swiping second base, McDermott advanced to third on a single into left field by Matt Riley. Riley Cheek would ground into a 4-6-3 double play, but McDermott would cross the plate bringing the score to 6-1.
-Veteran Riley Cheek would lead off the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run down the left field line. Will Budnick would rip a single into right center, but the Gamecocks would erase it with a 4-6-3 double play as they held onto victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Riley Cheek extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a solo home run in the ninth inning.
-Will Budnick led the offense with a 2-for-4 afternoon. The sophomore has recorded two multi-hit outings this season.
-Matt Riley recorded a hit for the third straight game that he's appeared in.
-Nick Brassington and JD Coleman tallied a hit in the game.
-Brandon Dahlman and Isaiah Bennett combined to throw 2.1 scoreless relief innings. The right-handers combined to give up two hits while striking out three Gamecocks.
-Queens played mistake-free baseball committing zero errors on the afternoon.
