NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte wrestling team competed in the Newberry Open which welcomed teams across all divisions for a one-day tournament.
Results
- Toure Moore took third place in the 157-pound weight class.
- D'Andree Hunt finished sixth in the 184-pound weight class.
- Josh Voelkel earned a third-place finish in the heavyweight competition.
How it Happened
- Dakota Williamson (149) earned four team points after advancing to round two after receiving a bye in round one. He defeated Kodey Butler of Mount Olive before falling in the quarterfinals.
- Nico D'Amico (149) earned two points after winning his opening-round match over Islaam Peace of Lander. He then lost in round two and was sent to the consolation bracket where he collected two more wins.
- Moore earned a total of 19.5 points winning his first two matches to get to the quarterfinals. After falling to Aaron Faison of NC State, Moore won his way through the consolation bracket taking third place in his weight class.
- Hunt totaled 15 points after getting off to a strong start with an opening-round win. He then lost in round two before tallying four straight wins in the consolation bracket. He eventually fell to Sam Irwin of Reinhardt in the fifth-place match.
- Stephen Falkner earned three points after winning two matches in the consolation bracket in the 197-pound weight class.
- Voelkel earned 17 points battling his way through the consolation bracket. Following a bye, he won six straight matches to claim third place.
