The Short Story: Five Royals reach double figures propelling the Queens Men's Basketball team to the ASUN Tournament quarterfinals with a 61-55 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Junior
Jay'Den Turner posted his 11
th double-double of his career, and sixth this season with an 11-point and 18-rebound effort. The 18 boards were a career-high for the High Point native and also the third most in a single game.
-Sophomore
AJ McKee reached double figures for the 30
th game this season with an 11-point performance. The Charlotte native connected on 4-of-7 shots from the field while also pulling down seven rebounds.
-
BJ McLaurin poured in 12 points as he has reached double figures in four of the last six games.
-
Kalib Mathews and
Kenny Dye combined to score 23 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
-Queens dominated the boards against the Eagles as the Royals outrebounded FGCU 43-29, including a 13-0 mark on the offensive glass. The 43 boards were the most since Dec. 9
th at High Point.
-The Royals cashed in from the free throw line going 17-for-23 while FGCU only landed on the stripe nine times all night.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
-Trailing 10-9 in the first half, the Royals would go on a 7-0 run to grab their largest lead of the half at six.
-Queens suffered a six-minute scoring drought from the field as the first half winded down.
-Following a seven-minute scoring drought in the second half, the Royals would go on a 5-0 run to grab a 51-45 lead forcing an FGCU timeout.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
-The 18 rebounds by
Jay'Den Turner were the most since the Division 1 era began.
-Queens improved to 16-4 this season when winning the battle on the glass.
-The victory marked the Royals first Division 1 ASUN Tournament victory. Queens is 4-0 in conference tournament games in the last two seasons.
