Women's Volleyball Suffers Hard-Fought Setback against Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, TENN- In a hard-fought match, the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team fell to Austin Peay University in straight sets (30-28, 26-24, 25-13)

Down 18-13 in set one, the Royals got hot scoring seven of the next eight points, taking a slim 20-19 advantage into the late stages after a Victoria Wood kill. The set would go back-and-forth the rest of the way, as the first set featured 13 ties and four lead changes. However, the Royals would falter down the stretch as the Governors took the final three points to secure the first set, 30-28.

In the second set, the Royals took advantage of early attack errors by the Governors, as they stormed out to an early 10-6 lead. The Governors would slowly trim the Royals lead, yet the Royals still held a slim 23-22 lead late into the set. The Governors would notch three kills and an ace, as they edged the Royals 26-24 in the second set.

In the third set, after a service error gave the Royals the first point of the set, the scorching-hot Governors tallied seven straight points, taking a 7-1 lead. The Governors would then take the final 8 of the last 10 points match, en route to their match-securing 25-13 third set win.

Victoria Wood led the Royals with 9 kills, with J. Johnson mailing in 8 kills of her own. Kayla McDuffie had two total blocks, while Kendall Buish totaled a team-leading 18 assists.

For the Governors, Mikayla Powell had a team-leading 14 kills, while Sarah Carnathan had 10 of her own. Jamie Seward totaled four blocks, while Kelsey Mead had a team-leading 24 assists.
