CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Ashley Fowler has been named head women's golf coach for the Royals, Queens University of Charlotte Director of Athletics
Cherie Swarthout announced today. Fowler comes to the Royals after starting her collegiate coaching career at the University of North Alabama.
"Ashley is a rising star in coaching that continued to be amplified as we moved through the coaching search process," Swarthout commented. "Ashley separated herself in her ability to articulate the game and how the experiences on the course can be translated into life experiences. As an athletic director, it is important to hire coaches who have a much bigger vision than wins and losses, good shots, and bad shots. Ashley is passionate when it comes to using the golf platform as an educational springboard into the job market or graduate school. As a highly accomplished student-athlete and leader, her insights and perspective are key to moving our golf program into the ASUN and Division I. Additionally, her enthusiasm and energy stood out and will propel our program forward."
Fowler spent the last year as a graduate assistant for the Lions instructing the players on the fundamentals of the game while also working to develop the group of golfers into leaders for life.
As a player for the Charlotte 49ers, Fowler was a member of Charlotte's inaugural women's golf team in 2017. Within the first three seasons, the 49ers ranked as high as No. 7 nationally and captured three tournament wins. Individually, Fowler recorded a total of 20 rounds at par or better. She also posted four top-five and seven top-10 finishes while earning multiple Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors. Fowler currently holds the record at Charlotte for the lowest single round, 66, and she ranked as high as No. 34 in the Golfweek Collegiate rankings and inside the top 100 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Holding a scoring average of 72.11 in her final season, Fowler was named Conference USA Player of the Year.

Fowler holds a bachelor's degree in international business and German from Charlotte. She also minored in psychology and American studies and holds a certificate in German translation and business. Additionally, Fowler was a three-time WGCA All-American Scholar and a three-time recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal while appearing on the Chancellor's List her entire collegiate career.
