BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's wrestling team (3-14; 1-8 SACC) split its final tri-meet of the season defeating Bluefield State before falling to King.
Queens 24 Bluefield St. 23
In a match that included five forfeits, Queens rallied to victory winning the final match to secure a one point victory.
Griffen Gonzales (133 lb) earned the first contested win for Queens by decision to open up a 9-0 lead.
Trailing 23-21 in the final match of the night, Riley Kuhn (285 lb) closed the match with a win by decision to secure the one point Royals victory.
King 25 Queens 16
Melvin Rubio (125 lb) opened the match with a win by major decision to take an early 4-0 lead. King won the ensuing three matches before a double forfeit at the 157 lb class to lead 15-4.
The Tornado won the following two matches to extend its lead to 25-4 before
Noah Curreri (184 lb),
Austin Watkins (197 lb), and
Josh Voelkel (285 lb) closed the match with three straight wins. The rally was not enough to unseat King and the Royals lost by a 25-16 final.
Queens will move on to the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, February 26.
