Queens Battles The Citadel in Season Opener

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte wrestling team (0-1) officially opened its first NCAA Division I season this evening facing the talented Bulldogs of The Citadel (1-0) on the road.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs' Ben Haubert opened the match strong securing a win over Queens' Jay Skalecki by fall.
  • The Citadel then collected two tech fall wins in a row before securing two additional falls to move in front 28-0. D'Andree Hunt competed for the first time as a Royal.
  • Stephen Cotton and David Makupson were able to earn points in their matches before falling by major decision. Cotton was making his first appearance on the mat as a Royal.
  • Melvin Rubio lost by decision to Ethan Willis by decision in what was considered the match of the night as it featured two veteran wrestlers.
  • Nico D'Amico battled in his match with Selwyn Porter falling by decision.
  • Vladimir Sukhikh also fell by decision in his first appearance as a Royal.
