ASUN Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's cross country teams are making history this weekend as they will race their first-ever ASUN Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022.
"Looking forward to seeing where we stand in the ASUN as our starting point," said Queens Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Jake Krolick. "This weekend will set our ground zero and help us understand our path as we really start to dive into our goals in the ASUN as a program."
On the women's side, Queens is ranked 15th in the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Poll. We have a few runners with a chance to earn the first All-ASUN honors in school history including freshman
Letizia Martinelli. Martinelli was honored as ASUN Runner and Freshman of the Week twice during the regular season.
On the men's side, the team is very young and has had some ups and downs throughout the season. "Our goal is that we have all our guys have their best days on the same day," said Krolick.
Mitchel Cox will be hopeful of earning All-ASUN honors and being the first men's cross country runner to do so.
Lance Sotelo is also another runner that could make a big impact for the Royals on Saturday.
"Individually, we will have an opportunity to measure our progress from mid-September when we raced here the first time," Krolick added. "At the end of the day, seeing progress there will be a good indicator of the work we have put in this fall. It will be great to see what that level looks like this weekend so we know where we need to grow over the next four years."
The ASUN Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 at John Hunt Park located in Huntsville, Ala. The women's race will be first at 8 a.m. and the men will follow at 8:45 a.m.
