Alleigh and Jordyn Johnson reach Double-Digit Kills in Narrow Defeat to Stetson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In its second match in as many days, Queens headed to DeLand, Florida to take on Stetson. The Royals had a strong showing in the opening sets and nearly pulled off a miraculous comeback but ultimately fell short, 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-11).

Queens found themselves down early in the first set but managed to get the offense going early as a kill and an ace by Alleigh Johnson on consecutive points sparked a run that saw Queens take nine of 12 points, capped off with a lead-grabbing kill by Jesse George. Two more lead changes would ensue throughout the set before a strong push by the Hatters would put them ahead, 22-17. Jordyn Johnson would take matters into her own hands, helping lead the squad to a six-point run, earning kills on four of those points, knotting the set 24. Stetson would manage the final two points and sneak by, 26-24.

The Royals carried the momentum into the second set and used it to spark an early lead. A kill by Anna Law gave Queens an 8-5 lead, followed up with a four-point run which included two blocks by Jordyn Johnson. The five-point lead would carry until the mid-point of the set before Stetson would start to push back, mustering together a five-point run of their own. This would be ended abruptly as Queens would respond with a three-point run of its own. After a kill by Jordyn Johnson pushed them ahead 22-20, Stetson would put the pedal to the medal and take five straight points and ultimately the set.

Alleigh Johnson managed another trio of kills early on in the third set but Queens struggled to get things going as Stetson would take the set and ultimately the match.
