Queens Volleyball Goes Toe to Toe with North Florida

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens welcomed North Florida into the Levine Center Friday evening, putting up one its more impressive performances on the season but narrowly falling short to North Florida, 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-14).

The first set had the Royal faithful on the edge of their seat in the first set, as there were 12 ties total with each team siding out almost immediately. Alleigh Johnson got going early with a trio of kills, the latter of which put Queens ahead, 11-10. The lead would slightly grow to two, as kills by Anna Law and Kaylin Dowling helped maintain the short advantage. North Florida fought to re-claim the lead, 20-17. After a brief timeout by head coach Hannah Long, the team were able to regroup and show a nice counterattack. Consecutive kills by Hallie Brown along with an opponent error cut the deficit to one, before another error knotted the score at 23. The Royals faced set point down 25-24, before a stellar block assist by Kendall Buish and Anna Law re-tied the score. North Florida went on to take the next couple points and squeeze by Queens, 27-25.

The second set was another back-and-forth battle, as there were another seven ties throughout, six of which came before either team reached 10 points. Queens found itself down 12-9 but fought back to tie the set at 14, thanks to a pair of kills by Victoria Wood paired with a few mishaps on the opposite side. The Ospreys pushed ahead and while Wood managed three more kills that set, it was just short, as Queens would drop the second, 25-21.

Alleigh Johnson stepped up in the third set as she managed a whopping six kills and swung at a .429 clip, but the Royals struggled to gain any momentum and would drop the set and ultimately the match.
