KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's wrestling team (1-9; 0-3 SACC) lost its first three matches of the new year at the Kutztown University Duals. The Royals were tasked with stiff competition facing three teams with one combined loss this season.
Round One
No. 16 Pittsburgh-Johnstown 42 Queens 6
Veterans
Melvin Rubio (125 lb) and seventh ranked
Noah Curreri (184 lb) seized victories by decision to put the Royals on the board. Curreri became the first wrestler in program history to reach 100 wins.
Round Two
No. 12 Kutztown 44 Queens 7
Freshman
Nico D'Amico (141 lb) won by decision while Curreri (184 lb) was victorious by major decision to cap the Royals scoring. Kutztown also remains undefeated.
Round Three
Seton Hill 30 Queens 11
Stephon Halliburton (174 lb), Curreri (184 lb), and
Austin Watkins (197 lb) rallied to consecutive wins with Curreri and Watkins successful by major decision. Curreri finished the day with a perfect 3-0 record.
Queens men's wrestling returns to South Atlantic Conference Carolinas competition at UNC Pembroke on Tuesday, January 11 at 6 p.m.
