SLIPPERY, ROCK, Pa.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team fell 2-1 in its season opener this afternoon on the road at Slippery Rock University (1-1).

Gabe Lechner scored the first goal of the day in the 10
th minute of today's game to give the Royals a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. The Royals then took that 1-0 lead into the halftime break following a scoreless second quarter of action that saw a combined total of seven saves between the two goalies on the field.
Slippery Rock was able to take over control of the game in the second half on a pair of goals from Jessie Trube. Trube's first goal came in the 39
th minute to tie the game up and her second followed in the fourth quarter allowing her team to steal today's match from the Royals.
Queens was outshot 14-12 putting 10 shots on goal to The Rock's eight.
Molly Walter led the Royals with four shots on the day, putting two on goal. Walter also recorded an assist on Lechner's goal. Slippery Rock's Trube totaled six shots, putting five on goal.
Slippery Rock's Grace Burker took today's win in the cage after totaling seven saves while
Marlee Geppert and
Avian Thompson split time for Queens to combine for a total of seven saves.
The Royals tallied nine penalty corners scoring their one goal off one in the game's opening quarter. Slippery Rock finished the game with eight penalty corners.
Queens will be back in action at Mercyhurst tomorrow at 1 p.m.
