Queens Handles Newberry at Home

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (4-2, 2-0 SAC) improved to 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play this evening after topping Newberry College (0-4, 0-1) by a score of 5-0. The shutout win is the fourth of the season for Queens.
 
Queens put on a clinic offensively in the match outshooting the Wolves, 22-2, and putting 12 shots on goal. Additionally, Erica Turner collected her fourth win of the season after collecting two saves in the first 45 minutes of play. Kaylin McKinney played in goal for Queens in the second half.
 
Eirinn McCafferty got the Royals going in the opening half scoring the first goal of the game in the 39th to put Queens in front 1-0. She then found the back of the net again on a header in the 41st to give the home team a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break. The two goals were the first of the season for McCafferty.
 
In the second half, Mia Manuel got in on the action scoring a pair of goals in the 62nd and 66th to make the score 4-0. Queens' fifth goal of the game then came from the boot of Girah Durant on a penalty kick in the 85th. The goal was the first of her collegiate career.
 
Both Manuel and McCafferty led all players on the field in shots on goal with three each. Emma Rose Stockton completed play with two shots on goal.
 
The Royals will be back at Dickson Field Wednesday, September 22 for a non-conference game with Clayton State at 5 p.m.
