GAFFNEY, S.C. – The 2020-21 regular season came to a close for the Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team on Friday night with a 3-2 (27-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-25, 15-11) loss to fellow IVA member Limestone University on the road.
The Saints (11-9, 2-3 IVA) outhit Queens .265 to .207 in the match and totaled 13.5 blocks at the net. The Royals (13-11, 5-2 IVA) did total seven service aces in the loss.
After Limestone won the first two sets, including a .348 hitting performance in the second frame, Queens responded with back-to-back wins in the third and fourth to force a deciding fifth set of play. The Royals were dominant in the fourth, hitting .435 as a team to extend the match.
In the fifth, the Saints held Queens to .000 hitting behind four total blocks to seal the win on their home floor.
Middle
JP Payne collected a team-high 13 kills with a .765 hitting mark, while
Josh Bragg followed with 12 kills and 11 digs on the outside. Right side
Tristan Santoyo also had 12 kills for Queens as
Daniel Leitao (28) and
Brandon Grabow (17) combined for 45 assists.
Guillermo Jordan tallied eight digs on the back row from his libero position.
Queens now turns its focus to the postseason as the team will host the 2021 IVA Championships inside Curry Arena on April 16-17. Tournament seeding and schedule will be announced early next week.
