WINGATE, N.C. – The 2020-21 season came to a close for the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team on Thursday night as the fourth-seeded Royals fell by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) score to top-seeded Wingate University in the 2021 SAC Spring Volleyball Championship Semifinals inside Cuddy Arena.
The Bulldogs hit .304 in the opening set with 19 kills to take an early 1-0 match lead. Wingate followed up with a .231 hitting mark in the second set and overcame five service errors in the frame to go ahead 2-0 over Queens.
In the third, Queens got out to an early 4-1 lead behind kills from
Lindsay Elmore and
Casey Tarvin. However, the Bulldogs rallied to tie the set at 7-all and eventually take a 10-point lead following 10 unanswered points. The Royals cut the deficit in half, 22-17, on another Elmore kill but Wingate pulled away late to continue its season.
Tarvin and Witt led the team with seven kills apiece, while
Chanel Turner and Elmore followed with six and five kills, respectively.
Brooke Farley paced the offense with 22 assists and had 11 digs to lead three players with double digit digs.
JayCee Jones also had 11 digs on the back row in her final collegiate match.
Queens ends the season 7-5 overall, ranking among the NCAA Division II Top 5 in both digs per set and opponent hitting percentage.
