CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte Royals women's soccer team will host the Limestone University Saints in the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Thursday, April 8. THe third meeting between the two teams will take place at Dickson Field at 7 p.m.
The Royals split the home-and-home series with the Saints during the regular season falling at home,1-0, and winning on the road, 1-0. Limestone finished the regular season 5-2 compared to the Royals 5-1-1 record. In their last matchup against the Saints,
Karen Juarez scored the game-winner for Queens as they picked up the shutout win.
In their quarterfinal game, the Royals defeated Tusculum University, 3-1.
Taylor Ward scored her first goal of the season in the 20
th minute on an assist from
Mia Manuel. Sophomore
Nia Gaither scored the second goal for Queens, and
Emily Beach sealed the game with the first goal of her collegiate career.
Hilda Svensson and
Alyssa Edwards also recorded assists in the win.
Manuel leads the Royals with seven points this season while
Emma Rose Stockton, Edwards, and Gaither each have four points.
Erica Turner is 6-1 in goal with a .903 save percentage.
Limestone defeated Lincoln Memorial University in overtime, 2-1. Katharina Haerle scored the game-tying goal for the Saints in the 81st minute, assisted by Andrea Zwinkles. In overtime, Zwinkles netted the golden goal to help advance her team to the semifinals.
Selina Boveleth, Tabea Schutt, and Zwinkles each have six points to lead the Saints this season. Katie Maher is 4-2 in goal with a .727 save percentage.
The winner of Thursday night's game will advance to the Championship on Sunday, April 11.
