CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team concluded the 2020-21 regular season on a high note on Saturday, defeating the visiting Pioneers of Tusculum University 3-0 (25-7, 25-23, 25-14) inside Curry Arena. In a prematch ceremony, the team held is annual Senior Day celebration where it honored its six-member senior class:
JayCee Jones,
Gabbi Montgomery,
Casey Tarvin,
Chanel Turner,
Olivia Williamson and
Logan Witt.
All six seniors were in the starting rotation as Queens (6-4, 6-4 SAC) opened the match hitting .400 in the first set and holding Tusculum (2-3, 2-3 SAC) to a -.143 mark in the frame. The second set saw the Pioneers rebounds and outhit Queens, .235 to .211, but consecutive points from Witt on a solo block and kill ended the set with Royals in front.
After Tuscluum went ahead 5-4 early in the third set of play, Queens used five unanswered point to take a lead it would never relinquish in completing the sweep.
Tarvin led all players with 15 kills and hit .238 on the outside to go along with seven digs, while Turner and Witt each finished with seven kills. Jones and
Kate Majewski paced the defense with 12 and 11 digs, respectively, and
Brooke Farley tallied 26 assists and seven digs.
As a team, the Royals hit .271in the match and totaled eight service aces, including two each from Farley, Jones and Montgomery.
The Royals will now await their fate in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Women's Volleyball Championships as the League will announce the tournament bracket and team seeds later tonight.
