CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team (1-1) picked up its first win of the season this afternoon defeating Converse College, 2-0, at Bessant Field.
Maya Forbes put the Royals on the board first with a goal in the sixth minute of play on a set piece out of a penalty corner.
Leighton Eber collected the assist on the play.
Queens' second goal of the game came in the 21
st minute when
Ellie Fitzgerald rebounded a saved shot and put it in the back of the cage to give the Royals a 2-0 lead that would hold until the final horn.
The Royals dominated play on the field for the majority of today's game outshooting Converse, 17-3, and putting nine shots on goal. Additionally, the Royals earned eight penalty corners compared to just one earned by the Valkyries.
Forbes led Queens in shots with four while
Erin O'Reilly led in shots on goal with three. Eber and Fitzgerald each tallied two shots.
Avian Thompson took the win in goal after recording two saves.
Queens is back in action on Tuesday, March 16 at Limestone. The game is slated to begin at 8 p.m.
