WISE, VA. – After more than a year away from competition, the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team returned to the court with a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-7, 25-16) win over UVA Wise in the season opener at The Prior Center.
As a team, the Royals hit .301 on offense and had eight service aces while the defense produce eight total blocks in holding the Cavaliers to a -.047 hitting performance. Three of the team's service aces came from
Lindsay Elmore.
The Cavaliers scored the first point of the match, but the Royals responded with an 11-6 run to gain a lead they would never give up. Queens led by as many as eight points, 17-9, following an ace from
Abbey Criser, and cruised to the first set win.
The second set of action saw Queens score the frame's first nine points and 17-6 on a kill from Elmore to force a Wise timeout. The Royals ended the set scoring eight of the last nine points to go ahead 2-0 in the match. The third and final set held much of the same as Queens outhit Wise .205 to .033 to seal the road win.
Hitter
Chanel Turner led the Royals with 10 kills and a .563 hitting performance while
Casey Tarvin and Elmore finished with six and five kills, respectively, and each hit above .360. Setter
Brooke Farley turned in 24 assists and seven digs as libero
JayCee Jones led all players with nine digs.
Queens remains on the road for the next contest next Friday against Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee at 7 p.m.
