DANVILLE, Va. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's wrestling team (1-4; 0-1 SACC) placed second at the Averett Cougar Open with four Royals taking first place in their respective weight classes.
Melvin Rubio (125 lb),
Jay Skalecki (165 lb),
Stephon Halliburton (174 lb), and
Noah Curreri (184 lb) each won five consecutive matches on their way to first place finishes.
Austin Watkins (197) and
Lucas Comroe (133) each secured third place finishes winning four of their five matches.
Josh Voelkel (285) advanced to the third round to cap the Royals scoring.
Riley Kuhn (197) participated as a non-scoring member and won the consolation bracket to finish fifth. Griffen Gonzales and
Liam Kirkpatrick each won a consolation match as well.
The Royals return to South Atlantic Conference Carolinas competition on Wednesday, November 17 at Belmont Abbey.
