Royals Sweep Coker On Senior Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team wrapped up their regular season with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Coker Cobras on Saturday afternoon at Curry Arena. The win improved the Royals overall record to 16-12 and 10-8 in South Atlantic Conference action while the Cobras fell to 3-23 on the season and 1-17 in league play. Queens continued their dominance on their home court finishing the season at 9-4 in Curry Arena.
 
Prior to the final regular season match, the Royals celebrated their remarkable seniors, including Brooke Farley (Fort Mill, S.C.) and Lindsay Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.). The two have put together a stellar career featuring 62 wins, a SAC Championship appearance and an NCAA Southeast Region appearance in 2019.
 
The young veteran squad wasted no time once the match began as they jumped out to a 9-3 lead and rallied ten consecutive points to propel forward and cruise through the opening set 25-7. Queens would hit .360 in the opener with 11 kills while their stellar defensive play forced the Cobras into hitting -.280 with ten attack errors. The Royals would execute from the service line with four aces. Queens would finish the afternoon tallying 11 service aces, including four from Kaylin Dowling (Woodleaf, N.C.).
 
The second set began tighter as Coker made some adjustments and executed their attack. Leading 6-4, the Royals put together a 6-3 run and took a commanding seven-point lead and never looked back. In the second, Queens hit .238 as a team with 14 kills on 42 attempts. Coker would improve their offense as the game progressed and hit .091 in the second with 11 kills, but they committed seven attack errors.
 
In the final set of the afternoon, Coker continued to adjust early and keep the score close. Trailing 6-4, the Royals put together a 5-1 run to regain the lead and they never turned back as they saw their lead grow to as much as eight in the closing set. The Royals would notch a game-high .387 hitting percentage behind 16 kills, including eight from rookie Alleigh Johnson (Winterville, N.C.).
 
For the match, the Royals were led offensively by Alleigh Johnson notching a game-high 13 kills and .591 attack percentage. Jordyn Johnson (Jamestown, N.C.) would add nine kills on 20 attempts and Lindsay Elmore recorded six kills. The defense was sparked by Jesse George (Virginia Beach, Va.) earning a game-high 14 digs.
 
The Royals will now turn their attention to the South Atlantic Conference tournament which will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
