CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The No. 14/16 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team defeated Emmanuel College, 83-62, to move to 2-0 on the season. The win caps off the Southeast Regional Challenge for the Royals (2-0) and an impressive start to the new season.
The game was very close early on featuring four lead changes within the first four minutes as neither team grew a lead of more than six into the later stages of the first half. The Royals began to pull away at the end of the half with a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 37-22.
The Lions (1-1) made two three-pointers to cut the lead to 37-28 going into the break. The Royals shot 46% from the field and 42% from deep in the first half, while holding the Lions to just 29% from the field and 28% from deep.
After a slow shooting start in the second half, the Royals went on a 14-0 run to extend its lead from 47-42, to 61-42. The lead for the Royals was never lower than 15 points the rest of the way.
Jamari Smith provided a spark off the bench, leading the Royals with 16 points.
Jay'Den Turner led the team with 10 rebounds.
Kenny Dye stuffed the stat sheet, with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists on the night.
BJ McLaurin also provided valuable minutes off the bench, with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
The Royals finished the night shooting 52% from the field and 44% from behind the arc. It was an efficient showing from the Royals, that caps off a strong opening weekend to the season.
