Gaither's Golden Goal Sends the Royals to the South Atlantic Conference Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Junior forward Nia Gaither scored tonight's golden goal at the 109:05 mark to lift the second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (15-3-1) over the third-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears (11-5-2) in the semifinal round of the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Today's game was very evenly matched with the Bears outshooting the Royals 9-8 in regulation. Queens was able to put five shots on goal to Lenoir-Rhyne four as neither team found the back of the net in the 90 minutes of action which forced tonight's match to go into double overtime.

Gaither's game-winner was the second of the season for the junior who has four goals this season and one assist for nine points.

Queens will compete in the SAC Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 14 facing top-seeded and 10th-ranked Catawba College. The Royals and the Indians played to a 1-1 tie during the regular season. Sunday's match will be played at 1 p.m. in Matthews, N.C., at the Matthews Sportsplex.
