CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's wrestling team (1-4; 0-1 SACC) lost its home opener to Mount Olive (1-0; 1-0 SACC) in a back-and-forth battle by a 22-21 final score.
The Royals held an eight point advantage entering the final two matches, but surrendered nine consecutive points to fall short in the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas opener.
Melvin Rubio (125 lb) sparked the team early winning by technical fall. Following two Mount Olive wins,
Toure Moore (149 lb) earned his first collegiate victory by decision to pull the Royals within one.
Veterans
Jay Skalecki (165 lb),
Stephon Halliburton (174 lb), and
Noah Curreri (184 lb) rallied to consecutive victories to put the Royals on top with Curreri winning by fall and Halliburton winning by majority decision.
The Trojans won the final two matches of the night to win by one point.
