HICKORY, N.C. – In the 69
th minute of play, a header from Lenoir-Rhyne's Scarlett Kelly would prove to be today's game-winner, securing victory for the Bears (7-2-2, 5-1 SAC) over the Royals. The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (7-3, 5-1 SAC) suffered their first South Atlantic Conference loss of the season after falling 1-0 on the road.
The Royals and the Bears fought hard for 90 minutes on the field this evening. The Bears edged the Royals in shots 17-16 while recording five shots on goal to Queens' four. Senior midfielder
Karen Juarez and freshman
Maddy Leone led the Royals in shots recording four apiece. While
Sophia Muetterties added three shots. Juarez placed two shots on goal.
Erica Turner and Lenoir-Rhyne's goalkeeper Grayson Cameron put on a stellar performance as they each tallied four saves.
The Royals will be back in the Queen City on Wednesday, Oct. 13 to start their four-game homestand taking on Shaw University in a non-conference match.
