Queens Attack Halted In 3-0 Loss At Lenoir Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team snapped a two-game win streak on Saturday when they fell at Lenoir-Rhyne 3-0 in Shuford Gymnasium. The loss dropped the Royals to 13-10 overall this season and 8-6 in the South Atlantic Conference while the Bears improved to 17-5 overall and 12-2 in league action. Despite the loss, the Royals remain at sixth in the conference with five matches remaining as the postseason push continues.
 
The entire afternoon, Lenoir-Rhyne set the tone early in each set by gaining an early lead. In the first set, the Bears opened up with an 8-2 lead behind six kills. The home team would maintain their lead throughout the entire set by hitting .289 with 17 total kills. Trailing 22-14, the Royals would mount a late 5-2 push in pursuit of a comeback, but the Bears prevented it with a kill to seal the set 25-19. In the opener, the Royals hit .147 as a team with nine kills, including four from senior Lindsay Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.).
 
The second set saw Lenoir-Rhyne maintain their tempo as they opened the set on an 11-4 run. Losing 19-10, the Royals put together a string of opportunities and inched their way closer using a 5-2 rally and closing the score to 21-15. Again, the Bears would not allow the Royals to gain momentum and mount a comeback and they secured the set 25-17. The Queens attack hit better in the second set by accumulating 13 kills on a .190 hitting percentage. Lenoir-Rhyne remained consistent hitting .317 with 16 kills.
 
In the third, Lenoir-Rhyne opened with a 10-2 lead and never looked back as the Bears took the set 25-8. The Royals continued to fight, but the errors mounted up. In the final frame, Queens hit -.029 with seven attacking errors and the Bears recorded 14 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. For the match, Queens hit .108 with 28 kills and six blocks while the Bears hit .313 with 47 kills and 56 digs.
 
Lindsay Elmore led the Royals with eight kills and two total blocks. Alleigh Johnson (Winterville, N.C.) notched six kills and Abbey Criser (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added five kills. Brooke Farley (Fort Mill, S.C.) passed out 25 assists on the afternoon. For the Bears, Taylor Prall recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs.
 
Queens will return to Curry Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 3 and face the Catawba Indians at 7:00 p.m. The Royals will look to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Indians in Salisbury on Sept. 29.
