Royals Play to Draw with No. 7 Catawba

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (9-3-1, 6-1-1 SAC) played No. 7 Catawba College (12-0-1, 7-0-1 SAC) to a 1-1 tie this evening at Dickson Field. The tie is just the second of the year for the Indians who were on a 10-game winning streak.

Queens was first on the board in tonight's hard-fought battle as Mia Manuel caught Catawba's defender sleeping to find the back of the net for the Royals in just the seventh minute of action. The goal was her sixth of the season as she continues to lead Queens in the category.

However, a foul inside the box during a Catawba corner kick gave the Indians a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick. Katie Beck stepped up to equalize the match as the ball slipped just out of Erica Turner's reach. The half ended with the score tied, 1-1.

Neither team would be able to come up with another goal in regulation or overtime leading to tonight's draw. Catawba outshot the Royals, 16-12, as both teams put six shots on goal.

Both Turner and Catawba's Sierra Davis totaled five saves each for the game.

The last team to score on Catawba was Chowan on September 15 prior to tonight's game.

The Royals will be back at home on Saturday, October 23 for Senior Day. The match against Limestone is set to begin at noon.
