WISE, Va. –
Daniel Carr poured in a season-high 31 points with seven rebounds, and the No. 21 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (9-3, 4-2 SAC) cruised to a 90-66 victory over The University of Virginia College at Wise (5-7, 1-5 SAC) on Saturday at the David J. Prior Convocation Center. Carr led four Royals in double figures, as
Van Turner Jr. followed with 16,
Jamari Smith scored 13 and
Jachai Taylor scored 10.
Queens jumped out to a lead in the first passage of play after Smith scored the team's first seven points and Carr drained his first of six 3's, giving the Royals a 12-5 edge at the first media timeout with 15:56 left in the first half.
Queens quickly extended the lead to 13, 22-9, with 10:54 left in the first after a 10-0 run capped by another 3-pointer from Carr. The Royals closed the have on a 9-2 run and after Carr hit a free throw with 17 seconds left, Queens carried a 46-25 lead into halftime.
In the first half, Queens recorded 14 assists.
Queens continued its pace in the second half and closed the game on a 16-6 run, once leading by as many as 28, 88-60, with 2:17 left.
For the game, Queens shot 55.6 percent from the floor and 34.6 percent from the 3-point line, while finishing with a season-high 23 assists.
Queens held UVa-Wise to 37.3 percent shooting, 36.7 percent from 3-point range, and outrebounded the Cavaliers 45-27. The Cavs were led by Briggs Parris who scored 19 points and Kaeleb Carter who scored 18.
