WINGATE, N.C.
-  The No. 16/24 Queens University of Charlotte's men's basketball team (14-3, 9-2 SAC) jumped out to a 26-point first-half lead and cruised to a road victory over Wingate University (7-10, 3-8 SAC), 77-59, on Wednesday night at Cuddy Arena. Daniel Carr led with 22 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Jamari Smith recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Gavin Rains added 10 points with eight rebounds, and Van Turner Jr. scored nine on three of seven 3-point shooting.

Defensively, Queens held Wingate to a season-best 32.3-percent shooting and 16.2 percent from the 3-point line (6-37), as the Royals earned a sixth-consecutive victory.

Early on, Turner connected on his first two 3-point attempts, giving Queens a 10-4 lead with 15:26 left in the first half. The Royals extended their lead to 20-5 with 10:29 to play in the frame after Carr capped a 15-0 run with a 3-pointer.

Queens continued its first-half outburst and after Carr hit a pair free throws, stretched the lead to 26, 38-12, with 5:36 remaining in the first. Wingate responded with a 13-2 run to cut the first-half deficit to 15, but in the final minutes of the frame, Smith and Carr combined to tack on six-straight points and give the Royals a 46-25 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs emerged from the locker room with a six-point run, closing the gap to 46-31 with 17:37 remaining. However, Wingate never pulled closer and later in the second half the lead hit 26 again with 5:29 to play on a layup by Smith.

The Royals shot 46.8 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from the 3-point range, and 75 percent at the free-throw line. Queens outrebounded Wingate, 45-36, and scored 38 points in the paint.

Jarren Cottingham led Wingate with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Miguel Priest followed with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
